I’m going to cover other lucrative options that are sure to set you on the right path to success.

For starters, some top fitness professionals set up wellness blogs, cloth lines or nutritional products. There are even fitness entrepreneurs who have made millions of pounds selling great fitness DVDs! Speaking of which, the market for sports supplements is massive, even smaller brands can make serious profits thanks to the ever-growing fitness trend. The thing is, there are lots and lots of business ideas to explore as fitness entrepreneur — with over 14 million fitness enthusiasts in the UK, your options are unlimited. Boot camps are also one of the most lucrative programs in the industry that gives you the opportunity to design the classes and provide solutions to the general complaints of fitness enthusiasts.

Just like fitness entrepreneurs, only a few personal trainers will achieve massive success — most them are likely to make over £30k, but this depends on the flexibility the job provides.

For the most part, some personal trainers make between £18K and £60K, but this depends on a few factors including the fitness club they’re based in, what their clients pay and how well they promote their services. It’s also great to know there are personal trainers who run their training brands and earn between £80K to £100K. So what’s the point? Well, it’s possible to earn a decent income coaching gym goers for one of the health club chains, but if you’re looking to make some serious cash, you will have to brave the odds and set up your own business.

Gym Manager

Earning potential: £25 to £40K

For starters, a gym or health club manager is someone who’s in charge of the day to day running of a gym. It’s actually a well-paying job and a lucrative career path that’s totally worth your consideration. Most fitness center managers started their career as a gym instructor and worked their way up to higher positions like department and deputy manager. Now, the earning potential might not be as good as that of a personal trainer, but it’s still a great position to start your fitness career. For the most part, health club managers in the private sector typically make about £40K a year and are also eligible for annual bonuses based on the amount of money earned by their health clubs.

Pilates Instructor

Earning potential: £12K to £38K

As someone who’s interested in keeping fit, starting a career as a Pilates instructor is sure to be a rewarding job — more like doing what you love and making a living out of it. Most Pilates instructors carry out their duties in this role in line with other health and fitness related activities like yoga or physiotherapy. There are two avenues to work as a Pilates instructor — you can either work as an employee in an established fitness establishment or become a self-employed Pilates instructor.

Speaking of which, as an employee or a qualified Pilates instructor you’re likely to earn between £12,000 to £18,000 — this actually depends on the number of students you work with and the establishment you work for. As you progress in your career, some fitness studios will be willing to pay over £40,000 for your expertise. Now as a self-employed Pilates instructor you’ll need to find somewhere to conduct your classes — you can simply head to local gyms and inquire about studio hire to run your classes. To make a good amount of cash, you’ll have to be good at promoting or marketing your service — the more you market your service, the more students you stand to get. Pay is usually by the hour starting from £8 to £12. You can also become a personal Pilates instructor where you’ll get to travel to your clients for one on one expert coaching. For this, your rates can be £40 per hour or even as high as £60 per hour within London and surrounding areas.

Note: Among other qualifications, you’ll need to have a Level Three Pilates Instructor qualification to operate in the UK.

Gym Instructor

Earning potential: £14K to 30K

Finally, you can become a gym instructor if you have the ability to assess people’s fitness and create personal exercise programs. As a gym instructor, your job will also have to do with showing patrons how to use exercise equipment safely and efficiently. It’s important to note that your earning potential as a gym instructor may not be all that great but the job is fairly easy to do. It also gives you an excellent opportunity to proceed to a become a personal trainer, and that’s a way better role in the fitness industry. Moreover, you can work as a self-employed gym instructor — you could run classes in community centers, local gyms, schools or public parks. The best part? You could do a mixture of employed and self-employed work.
